  • Turn off data connection when screen is off
  • Allow only important apps to run in the background
  • Turn off Pedometer

One of the ways to fix the HTC One M8 slow charging battery issue is to enable (EPSM) Extreme Power Saving Mode. Most people are not enabling this feature because they think it will decrease the overall CPU Performance. But this is not true, HTC One M8 somehow managed to provide moderate CPU performance with extra power saving mode enabled. Here is how to activate this mode.

  • Using your two fingers swipe down from the status bar and open Quick Settings
  • Then tap Extreme power saving mode and the feature will be enabled.

But, if you don’t have the feature on your HTC One M8, then

  • Go to Settings on your phone
  • Tap on About Phone
  • Next tap on Software Update and update the device with the latest version available.

As the phone is updated, you will find the EPSM feature on your device, then go ahead to enable it.

Solution 2

There are many users who might not want to enable the Extreme power saving mode as this might affect the CPU performance. So, the thing you can do is to disable all the bloatware apps from the device. HTC One M8 comes with many bloatware apps that are actually of no use and end up taking lots of memory space and waste battery. Disable those apps.

Solution 3

Another simple way to fix HTC One M8 slow charging battery issue is to  charge and discharge the lithium-ion battery once in a month.

  • Charge your HTC One M8 to 100%
  • Drain it to 0%.

This will keep the battery calibrated and accurate.

Solution 4

If your HTC One M8 starts draining rapidly, like 10-15% per hour, then it must be a third party app which you have installed recently that is causing the issue.

  • Go to settings
  • Power Usage
  • Look for any suspicious app that is eating your battery. Check for loopholes in Newly installed apps and then uninstall it from your device.

  1. So questions, I assume everyone has either gotten a new phone or fixed their old one and if you fixed it was it the usb charge port for you as well?

  2. my battery is not draining very fast, but the phone charges slow as hell. i charged it for about 2 hours, starting from 0%, after the two hours it was at 26%

  3. Extreme power saving is fine if I am out all day, but should I really need this to charge from USB?

My phone battery actually goes down while connected to USB and doing almost nothing (some background apps sync maybe, but no active use, no screen). Tried different cables and USB ports (including USB 3).

My Galaxy S3 used to be fine with this… come into work with 80% charge, plug in the USB cable, 1 or 2 hours later it tells me it’s full. If that 1-2 hours becomes 3-4 I’m ok about that, but for it to not increase charge at all?!!

    1. Hi, I would make sure the usb port on the computer side is powered. On my Dell laptop, some usb ports do not supply juice at all. It is highly conceivable for battery to go down while charging.

    2. Having the same problem recently. Battery drained even when charging, even when I have the phone off and charging. Very frustrating, it does seem to be the power saving function because the phone charged but pretty slow when that feature is off.

      1. Same here whenever I plug in my phone even on EPS my phone still loses battery and I can’t use my phone because it will not charge so frustrating if anyone has a solution please tell us

        1. I took it to a third party source not HTC direct and got the charging port replaced. It was either loose or faulty , and it got fixed. It was cheaper to go to a third part then HTC direct, you can try to fix it yourself there’s videos online if you are handy. I’m not going to lie I’m pretty rough with the phone and have grabbed the phone by the charging cable before. It might have loosened it.

          1. At the same time I’m coming from a iPhone 4 and was also pretty rough with the phone and cable and never had a problem. However I currently prefer android over OS (restrictions) so will continue to use android phones. The issue I had with the iPhone was the Times I accidentlt dropped the phone the screen would crack and I would have to replace the glass, with the m8 the few times I’ve had it survived fine. Again I’m not the most careful person. Overall I like the m8, except battery could be better. I charge 2.5 times a day, I’m a heavy user, on chrome, YouTube and voip a lot. However my gfs phone, Sony Xperia does seem to have better battery life. She’s a moderate user and only charges once a day. My phone is charging fine now.

          2. I live in Asia so the cost will definitely vary, I spent $100 US. My problem may differ from you, the third party I went is a phone store that sells and repairs phone and they were the one that told me what the problem was and promised if it didn’t fix the problem I would not be charged.
