HostGator vs BlueHost: Which Is the Right Hosting Provider for You?

Whether you’re building a website for your business or starting a personal blog, you’ll want to use the services of the best web hosting company. This way, you can set up your site in a quick and simple way and ensure that it can be easily accessed by your target audience.

Unfortunately, choosing the right web hosting company can be a challenge since there are lots of options to choose from. To make this easier, you can narrow your focus to the top two hosting providers of today: HostGator and BlueHost.

We’ve already compared the performance, uptimes, and response times of these two companies in a previous post. Today, we’ll do another comparison on other factors to help you decide which company to use.

Security

When choosing a web hosting provider, you want to opt for a company who takes the right steps to protect your website from hackers and safeguards its servers from attacks. Fortunately, if you’re choosing between HostGator and BlueHost, you’ll find that both of them have great security measures in place.

BlueHost protects its clients’ websites by allowing users to enable two-factor authentication, which provides additional security and helps prevent hackers from accessing accounts. Clients can also use account validation tokens when speaking with customer support agents so they won’t have to give their passwords. BlueHost has likewise improved its password reset page to help clients generate highly secure passwords.

HostGator, however, takes things a step further by using multiple layers of network security (including mod_security rulesets and a custom firewall rule) to prevent DDoS attacks and keep its clients safe. It also has a state-of-the-art data center, which adds further protection to clients’ servers. The company has many other security methods that it keeps confidential.

Both BlueHost and HostGator take security seriously, but the latter undeniably wins this round.

Pricing

HostGator and BlueHost have almost similar hosting plans and pricing. Their startup plans — “Hatchling” on HostGator and “Basic” on BlueHost — are both offered at $3.95 per month with one domain allowed and unlimited bandwidth. The only difference is that HostGator’s Hatchling offers unlimited disk space, while BlueHost’s Starter includes only 100 GB.

Their next plans — “Baby” on HostGator and “Plus” on BlueHost — are both offered at $5.95 and have unlimited bandwidth and disk space. The difference is that Baby doesn’t put any limits on the number of websites allowed, while the Plus includes only one.

Verdict: HostGator and BlueHost offer similar plans, but the former provides better value for money.

User Interface

The two hosting companies both offer their own control panels to users. Tech experts agree that both control panels are user-friendly and easy to understand, even for those who have a limited background on website creation and management. Both panels have one-click installers for commonly used scripts such as WordPress, and they have impressive security that protects user files from hackers and malware. It’s a tie for this round.

So there you have it! HostGator and BlueHost are almost equal in what they offer, but the former provides better security and value for money. Visit this post to learn more about the performance as well as uptime and response time of HostGater and BlueHost.
