Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti: Is it the End of the Road for the Graphics Card?

Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti: Is it the End of the Road for the Graphics Card?

Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti: It is not just in the fully assembled devices like smartphones that new models are launched in succession making the older version obsolete. Even the key components like graphics cards used for high-end video games receive that kind of attention in the market. The talk of the town in the gaming industry is centered around the powerful graphics card GTX 1080 Ti from Nvidia. The company has released the next generation card, the GTX 2080 Ti and would want the customers to buy these. The issue faced by the customers is that there is not a marked increase in the performance of the new graphics card over the GTX 1080 Ti. But more importantly for them, the price of the GTX 1080 Ti which had fallen once the new GTX 2080 Ti was announced has again risen in the market following rumors that Nvidia has ordered stoppage of production of the GTX 1080 Ti graphics cards. This might mark the end for the ever popular GTX 1080 Ti card.

GTX 1080 Ti Availability the Main Issue

A combination of circumstances has put the gaming enthusiasts in a fix with regard to the Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti graphics card. The introduction of a new and improved version meant the resellers may not have stocked a huge quantity of the component. It is only after the new GTX 2080 Ti cards came in that evaluations and comparisons were done and then shared through online forums that there is no big deal. Worse, a couple of new features, new ray tracing and anti-aliasing supposed to be built into the new card is yet to be tested since the games released after the new card do not need these features in their gameplay. The other important factor playing on the minds of the buyers is the new tariff regime imposed by the US President Trump, under which the import duty on such cards imported from China will attract a higher duty from January, just less than two months away. This has pushed the price of the GTX 1080 Ti graphics cards, purely based on the demand-supply paradigm.

May Have to Settle for the New Card or go Second-hand

According to reports, the price of GTX 1080 Ti graphics cards has reached almost the same levels as the new GTX 2080 Ti graphics cards, around $760. It might, therefore, be prudent to go for the new card and enjoy the warranty and whatever improved performance the component gives in the games you play. The only alternative for you is to buy from the highly unreliable second-hand market. But that is neither here nor there since a majority of these pieces have come out of cryptocurrency mining. Their life would have been squeezed out by the very demanding cryptocurrency mining process and you won’t get any warranty on used goods. It will amount to throwing good money after bad money and not worth the effort.

Unfortunately, there does not appear to be any comparable product from the other manufacturers either. You are stuck with Nvidia.
