GTA V Data Miners Reveal Diamond Casino Update was Part of Abandoned DLC

Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 5 is arguably not only one of the most popular video games of all time, but also one of the most popular entertainment products of all time. Ever since the official release in 2013, GTA 5 has sold way more than blockbuster hits such as Star Wars and Avengers: Endgame. Most of the credit for the game’s immense success goes out to GTA Online and the incredible response it has received from fans and players around the world. However, despite the huge success of GTA Online, lots of GTA fans have been left waiting for the GTA 5 DLC for years now. And a recent discovery by Rockstar data miners suggests that the latest Diamond Casino and Resort update to the game was actually a part of story DLC that was abandoned by Rockstar Games.

Back in 2017, Rockstar Games had officially put down the idea for additional Downloadable Content, while there were rumours going around online that new DLC for both the story and the online mode had been available for a while. While Rockstar neither confirmed nor denied these rumours, data miners of GTA suggested that empty data mines found in the single-player campaign suggested that GTA 5 story DLC could have included a zombie apocalypse, a Trevor-focused story, and an Ocean’s Eleven-style heist of the Diamond casino, bringing the game to an end just like it started. However, most of that DLC was abandoned for the single-player game and repurposed for the DLC for GTA Online in 2017 and 2018.

The Problem with online exclusivity

When seen from a business perspective, this change from single-player DLC was a pretty clever strategy because so far it has worked incredibly well for Rockstar. But from a gamer’s perspective, a lot of fans beg to differ. GTA players have argued that making the Diamond casino DLC accessible exclusively to the online mode limits access to content even more. This makes sense, given that the Diamond Casino DLC update has still not been released legally in around 53 countries, which makes the content off-limits for a plethora of fans around the world.

Keep an eye out for GTA VI

As of now, the only way GTA players will be able to play new single-player content in the game seems to be in the highly anticipated sequel, Grand Theft Auto 6. If that really happens, the fans’ waiting period will turn out to be drastically long, given that they have already been waiting for a couple of years and GTA 6’s release is scheduled for FY 2022, which is still a long way off.
