For some of us, time seems to stand still ever since Grand Theft Auto 5 has been released. This is because the game is filled with stunning graphics, and adrenaline-packed storyline and a ton of side quest and side activities that would fit the needs and wishes of almost every gamer. And with Rockstar coming up with constant updates, focusing on improving GTA Online and adding new things to it on a regular basis, what else can we say about it?
We can say one small thing, however. We are more than excited to see what Rockstar will come up with next and what GTA 6 is going to look like. Today we will be talking about all the rumors that we have gathered here (fair warning, there are not a lot of them) and we will focus more on what we and the majority of the fanbase would like to see from the game. After all, with the massive success that Rockstar had with GTA 5 stakes are inevitably very high.
Possible Release Date
Let’s be honest. Rockstar is very much focused on perfecting the Wild West fantasy, with Red Dead Redemption 2 soon to be released this October. This means that the company will not launch GTA 6 for at least another year. The best outcome is that we will have to wait 3 or 4 more years to see GTA 6 come out. That is a very long period, the biggest one recorded between the releases of two games in the GTA series. This would put a nine-year gap between the release of GTA 5 in 2013 and the release of GTA 6 in 2022. This piece of intel surfaced from ‘The Know,’ a YouTube channel that is known to be a reliable source.
Talk about GTA 6
Fans might be disappointed to hear that they would have to wait a couple of years to see the next game be released. There are some reasons behind Rockstar’s move. First of all, Red Dead Redemption is supposed to be launched this fall so they will continue updating the game, maybe coming up with some DLC content and seeing how well the sales are going to go.
Moreover, the company is still coming up with updates for GTA Online, so we are guessing that GTA 5 sales are still going so why jump to the next game in the series and not profit from the sales of the current one? And last but not least, GTA 5 was such a masterpiece that the studio would have to put in a lot of work to top its success.
This would mean coming up with some new scenarios, working in the graphics department, probably introducing more fast-paced songs as part of the game’s soundtrack. Of course, we did not fail to think about the work that gets put into the design of the new city and the interactions of the new protagonist of the series.
New female protagonist
Speaking of the new protagonist, some fans want to see Rockstar come up with a strong female lead for GTA 6. In the past, the game studio was accused of being sexist since the majority of female roles were either prostitutes or dancer at a strip club. And girlfriends as well, but their part was too small to make a difference, being a simple companion of the protagonist while he takes her out on a date.
The last strong female presence in one of the GTA games was Catalina back in GTA 3. This is not to say that there were no female gangsters but their roles felt small, and those characters disappeared pretty fast from the primary setting of the game.
It would be interesting to see if Rockstar listens to its fans and decides to tailor the story from a female lead’s perspective.
Possible city locations
Another big thing that people speculate around a lot is the location of GTA 6. There some possible outcomes and we would like to talk more about them.
A fan favorite is Vice City. Everyone that has played at least one game from the series remembers this icon city, which would look even better in full HD in a modern setting. However, Rockstar has said that the charm of Vice City was the fact that it was iconic during that era. So perhaps recreating it would be a mistake.
Another guess is St. Petersburg. Russia is known to have a terrifying mafia presence. Rockstar gave us a taste of this Eastern European charm back during GTA 4 with Niko Bellic. Snippets of conversation and some of the quests led us to believe that the Russian mob was indeed something to be afraid of. Moreover, since Niko did not die as of yet, it would be fun to see how he fares when he return to his home country.
Cape Town is one of the cities that most fans debate over. Will this be the new GTA 6 inspired city? Will it not? That remains to be seen. The beauty of Cape Town lies in the fact that it fits Rockstar’s mold for a great action-packed city. It has both the wealth and the poverty of different social classes paired with the palpable gang mob activities. And this would also allow fans to explore a city from another continent. Who are we to say no to that?
