Google Tests For Aggregation of Short-form Video Content from TikTok and Instagram Reels

Google is working on a feature to compile short-form videos from video sharing platforms like Instagram and TikTok, to be included in the Google app. According to the sources, if everything works out well, users will not have to visit individual apps to find the short video of their choice.

The short video carousels have made it to the internet and have been carrying over Google Discover for the past few years. This feature is bringing about all viral content from Instagram and TikTok.

According to TechCrunch’s reports, one of the Google spokespeople confirmed that the feature is being installed in some mobiles and is only limited to the early-stage. This would soon make its way to the Google app for mobiles as well as websites. However, the search feature proceeds are still unclear.

The Journey of ‘Short Videos’

The ‘Short Videos’ started making rounds in different sections of Google’s Stories, which was launched back in October 2020 for iOS and Android. The Stories are referred to as ‘AMP Stories’ and consist of all video contents published by Google’s online publishing partners such as Forbes, Now This, Bustle, USA Today, Vice, and more.

You will find the Short Videos carousel on your feed when you scroll across the Google Knowledge Base Box provided for the Green Bay Packers. Some of the platform’s common listings include standings, images, top results, twitter results, Top Stories, Videos, and more.

The content from Instagram and TikTok is available across Short Videos. If a user clicks on it, the web version will be easily available on the platform. It is being anticipated that the result will be users sticking to just Google.

Google’s plans

Since 2015, Google has been bringing about video content, which they launched in partnership with Twitter. However, the formal relationship of Google with video-sharing platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and even TikTok isn’t clear.

Accordingly, Google has refused to let out any future or possible details about the feature. These apps are just being tested on different devices for now. The testing has certain limitations with the devices being on the early-stage feature.

If Google identifies the index, the feature may soon become a popular hit. This might play an important role in boosting video content across social media until Google chooses to bring it over. As per the spokesperson, it is still in the testing phase.
