Last year, Google launched the Pixel 4a and the Pixel 4a 5G, two smartphones that belonged to the ‘mid-range as far as the pricing was concerned. While the former was introduced in the market in the month of August, the 5G variant was officially launched in September. Ever since the Pixel 3 was launched, Google started the practice of launching a high-end Pixel phone and then coming out with a variant of the phone which would have lower specifications.

With the way things are moving, there is a strong indication regarding the multinational technology company continuing to follow this practice with its upcoming smartphone releases. Reportedly, Google is working on the process of launching a Pixel 5a, a moderately priced version of the Pixel 5. This particular piece of information has come from Steve Hemmerstofer who has also provided one with a glimpse of the Pixel 5a and some important details regarding its specifications.

The Pixel 5a is expected to have a unibody plastic build that would be similar to the models that were launched earlier. The device has dimensions of 156.2 x 73.2 x 8.8mm, which are quite similar to the dimensions (153.9 x 74 x 8.2 mm)of Pixel 4a 5G. The front end of the camera has a 6.2-inch OLED panel which is flat and features a hole-punch for the camera module in the front and slim side bezels. At the moment, there is no clarity on whether the display screen will boast of a high refresh rate or not. There is a chance that the device will have a low refresh rate – closer to 60Hz – just like the Pixel 4a 5G.

On the rear end, there is a fingerprint reader, a square camera module, and the logo of Google. As per Steve, this phone will have a dual-camera setup that will be very similar to the one you come across in Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5. This also indicates the possibility of Google deciding to incorporate the image sensors which the earlier models had.

The Pixel 5a will also reportedly have stereo speakers along with a 3.5mm audio jack. There has been no information about the battery capacity and other hardware-related details. The launch date of the device also remains unknown. However, if the situation turns out to be similar to the launch of Pixel devices in the past, one will witness several more leaks before the official launch of the product.
