Google Pixel 4 Has Some Key Camera Features Which Won’t be Available on Older Pixels

If you had followed the Made by Google event for the launch of Pixel 4 and 4 XL, you would have noticed the Live HDR+ preview and Dual Exposure Controls. These features will not be available on last year’s hardware, the Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL.  Google has clarified this and said those using the older version of its smartphones may still receive a number of updates and features which the new phones have got.

Much Appreciated Features

The two features, Dual Exposure controls, and Live HDR are quite useful features and have been received well by the users of these new phones. Live HDR is a facility to view the photo you are about to click. The technology support for this feature works in real-time to merge the views from the different cameras and present to you a rough idea of what your photo will appear like. You could then make those finer adjustments and click the photo.

Similarly, the Dual Exposure control is another tool to make a modification to the exposure you are focusing on with the Google Pixel 4 camera and aids it in getting a better photography experience.

Google Pixel smartphones have been receiving rave reviews for the superior optics performance and the company has only made more improvements in the latest iterations of the devices.

The obvious explanation for these features being not included in the Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL is in a tweet put out by Google. It says these features require low-level capabilities in the hardware which these devices don’t possess.

Previous Versions May Receive Astrophotography

One of the new features which the Google Pixel 4 and 4 XL smartphones have is the Astrography or Astrophotography mode. With this feature, you can click 16-second long exposure of the night sky 15 times one after the other and create a photo of the star-lit sky. This is more of a creative feature and this will be made available to the older Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL phones as well. Besides this, there are other features like Live Captions and the new Google Assistant, which with all its latest improvements, will also be passed on to the last year’s devices.

If you don’t find any of these available on your device, you may have to wait. The upgrades are being sent in batches by Google and you should receive it in the near future.
