Google Pixel 4 and 4XL Screen Protector Leaks Hint at Gesture Recognition Feature

Leaked renders of mockups of the screen protectors that supposedly belong to Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are currently making a wave. According to the renders by @Universeice, the Pixel 4 series handsets could carry heavy grooves on the top and bottom of the devices. The top groove would likely house Project Soli which is tied to gesture detection technology. @OnLeaks recently came up with high-quality images of the Pixel 4 series based on the mockups. The images hint at a rear camera-bump shaped to rounded square housing lenses and sensors.

Leaked screen protector renders – Will the top bezel house Project Soli?

The leaked renders hint at a lot of new features that may show up in the Google Pixel 4 series. One of the features that the image suggests is that of a thick upper and bottom groove. This could be taken as an indication that both the phones may lack a selfie camera that pops up.

Google announced Project Soli four years back in 2015. It looks like the leaked press renders might be hinting at the phones embracing this technology. According to Google, Soli is a sensing technology that detects gestures using miniature radar. The top groove of the phones in the image shows a cutout on the right which is where Soli would likely sit. The cutouts on the left are likely for twin selfie camera systems and a variety of sensors. The cutout in the middle could sport a speaker.

Based on the above rumors floated by the Twitter tipster Ice Universe(@Universeice), @OnLeaks in collaboration with @iGeeksBlog tweeted out high-quality images of the Google Pixel 4 series phones. The renders were comparable to the mockups that were released earlier by @Universeice. The renders suggest that Pixel 4XL will be bigger than both Pixel 4 and Pixel 3. Pixel 4 will likely measure in at 147.0 x 68.9 x 8.2 mm, while Pixel 4XL is expected to be slightly bigger at 160.4 x 75.2 x 8.2 mm.2018’s Pixel 3’s dimensions were 145.6 x 68.2 x 7.9 mm.

The high-quality renders also show a camera bump shaped like a rounded square at the rear of the phone. The camera systems are expected to sport lenses with different focal lengths, apart from a sensor, and a lens. The displays of both phones are curved at the edges. The images also suggest that the phones might not carry front-facing speakers as in the Pixel 3 series.

Going by last week’s leaks on Pixel 4 series’ specifications, both the phones are expected to be fueled by 6 GB RAM instead of 4 GB as seen in their predecessors – the Pixel 3 series. The storage capacity on the Pixel 4 series handsets will likely be 128 GB.

If previous patterns created by Google are to be trusted, Google Pixel 4 is likely to witness an October release.
