Camera Malfunctioning Reported and Taken Care

You have to give it to Google. The speed with which users have been sending in complaints in Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL appear to have been matched with the software updates in December, thereby resolving them. The latest set of complaints had to do with the camera in the Pixel devices showing error messages when the users tried clicking images from within third-party apps.

Forums Report that the Issue Has Been Solved

The camera issue was reported by some users in November in some of the Google user forums and some amount of escalation took place. There were a few variations in the way the issue cropped up on the cameras in the Google Pixel 3 and 3XL devices. When the user is within a third-party app, like say Instagram, the message on the screen would display “a fatal error has occurred” or that the “camera cannot be connected” or the screen may simply go blank. Some savvy users had tried the usual tricks like rebooting etc. but to no avail. Google has refrained from responding directly to any of these complaints. But the same forums are now reporting that the December updates issued by Google have taken care of the issue and the camera is now performing as expected.

Sideloaded on mine and my wife's. Confirmed fixed: memory issue closing apps, speakers sounding like shit on low volume.
She was also affected by the bug where the camera would just stop working randomly in a third-party app. That was also fixed with Dec OTA.

Other Earlier Issues Too Removed

There were some more issues or bugs reported in the Google Pixel 3 and 3XL smartphones earlier, through the month of October. One key issue was that the voice calls would drop or some noises would interrupt and so on. It is now learnt that most of these have been removed through the updates released in November. If some users of the devices are still facing these problems, then they may have to get back to Google and have their phones replaced.

One point being repeatedly made is that the phone companies do wait till there is enough number of users giving the same complaint. Of course, the internal team does internal simulated tests to ascertain the veracity of the complaint. And then, the software repair work is to be done and tested before released to be downloaded and installed on all the devices out there.

If you have a Google Pixel 3 of Pixel 3XL phone and have faced any of these issues, check for the updates and make sure the problems no longer exist.
