Google Pixel 4 and 4 XL launched recently have a voice recording app that has the capability to transcribe the conversation and even music being played into text and save it. This app is called Recorder and was considered unique only to these Google Pixel phones. There was no word on this feature being made available to the older models. There is now an indication that the company is planning to send in an update to the older phones like the Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL as well. The update may reach the devices soon.
Reddit Post Reveals the Intention on the Update
This piece of information on Google’s plans to include the older Pixel models has come through an exchange on community network Reddit. There is a post by a gentleman on Reddit who is currently using the Google Pixel 3 XL and his wife has a Google Pixel 2. The person’s wife has some health issues and tends to have memory lapses. The gentleman says in his post that he watched the video on the Recorder app and felt how useful it could be if it was available on his or his wife’s phone. He says she could record her interactions with her physician and later read the text. This post got an immediate response from Pixel Community, the official Google account that reads: “We plan to roll it out to older Pixel devices in a future software update”.
This is the revelation that has sent the expectations soaring. As of now, it is not evident which of the older Pixel iterations will receive this update. If it is a simple app and can perform on the older devices too through a software update patch, then the company may go all the way up to all the earlier Google Pixel models. It may decide to stop with the Google Pixel 2 and 2 XL as well.
Google’s Gestures Being Appreciated
The same Reddit post has a few more comments from other community participants. One of them says he has an older Pixel device but has sideloaded the APK file of the Recorder app and is able to use it. Another post appreciates Google for providing software support to even its 2-year old models (in this case the Google Pixel 2). Google updates its older models too, as Apple does most of the time, with its latest software versions.
The official communication and the actual update patch from Google will now be awaited for the Recorder app.
