Google ditched the affordable Nexus lineup which used to be the crowd favorite smartphone a couple of years ago. They made a leap into the premium category with the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones in 2016. Ever since it got launched, the phones made by different manufacturers often ends with lots of manufacturing and hardware defects.
Just a quick Google search (ironically!) online will reveal that there are so many users who complain about the Pixel, Pixel 2 and sometimes even the third generation of the flagship phones. Companies like Motorola, LG and Huawei are the ones that have been helping the company manufacture the phones. The second generation had screen issues where you could see a blue tint on the OLED display in the Pixel 2 XL variant while the first generation faced even more complaints.
Google has acknowledged the problems as a manufacturing defect and has agreed to pay up to $500 per phone to compensate the faulty launch. The initial batch of phones delivered to customers had faults in the microphone which obviously affected the call quality. It is supposed to be a smartphone with lots of amazing features but when you couldn’t really make phone calls, it doesn’t make sense to spend nearly $1000 on a premium device.
According to their official statement, the company will pay a big sum of $7.5 million to users who received the first set of Pixel phones with faulty microphones. All Pixel XL and Pixel phones manufactured and delivered before the 4th of January in 2017 will be covered under this cash reimbursement policy. The company further added that this issue occurred because of a crack in the soldering as small as a hairline yet it affected the audio codec as well as the microphones not working as they are supposed to.
Even before the company could take back the phones and fix the issue or provide replacement, users started filing lawsuits that led to this conclusion. Google has now accepted to pay the same to users who were affected by this issue. The $500 is the highest sum which is reserved only for those who went to the service center to get a replacement but were provided another Pixel device that had the same microphone issue. Those who got their phones replaced and didn’t face any issue with the new device are eligible to receive $350 whereas everyone who purchased the Pixel or Pixel XL will get $20 as compensation for the manufacturing issue.
