Samsung is expected to introduce its S11 lineup consisting of Galaxy S11, Galaxy S11e and Galaxy S11+ in 2020. The launch event is expected to be held on 18th February next year. However, just months away from this occasion, Samsung has filed for a radical new design patent.
The new patent filing suggests that a variant of Galaxy S11+ will come with an improved hole punch design that could house three cameras instead of one or two cameras as seen in Galaxy S10, Note 10 and S10+ smartphones.
The Galaxy S11 and S11e are expected to come with two and one front cameras respectively.
Samsung Triple Front Camera Hole Punch Notch Patent
The patent filing was noticed by Tiger Mobiles, which saw a new patent filing for a bezel-less display with triple front cameras in a hole punch notch. However, there is no explicit statement that mentions the three oval housings are for the cameras only.
Samsung is already moving away with more than one camera in the hole punch as we’ve seen before. The S10+ had two cameras in the hole punch and Note 10 had a much cleaner hole punch with a single camera.
Two new housings in the hole punch could be used for facial recognition data. This would enable 3D facial recognition on the Galaxy S11 like we’ve seen in Apple iPhones. Alternatively, they may be under-display cameras as revealed by Samsung product marketing director Hassan Anjum back in 2018.
Samsung Galaxy S11, S11e, and S11+ Leaked Specifications
The next flagship series of Samsung which is expected to release in 2020 will feature AMOLED displays in all variants. They are also rumored to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC which will be accompanied by 12GB RAM and a whopping 1TB internal storage.
The primary camera module will have a 108MP Samsung ISOCELL sensor and a deep fusion camera lens. This series is also rumored to be equipped with one of the quickest in-display fingerprint sensors that we’ve seen in a device yet.
The devices are most likely going to come with Android 10 preloaded with One UI 2.1, which is Samsung’s custom UI based on Android 10. The S11 lineup will have both 4G LTE and an option for 5G support in some variants.
The pricing of the S11 is expected to be around $1,000 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB variant. Galaxy S11 is rumored to have black and gold color options.
