The First Chinese Interactive Robot Scares You With Its Naturalness

A few weeks ago we heard about a very strange project of a man passioned by robotics. That man managed to create Scarlett Johannson. This new interactive robot is more advanced than you think and it represents the work of some Chinese people.

A group of researchers from the University of Science and Technology in China revealed the result of 3 years working effort. As you can see in the video above, this is an interactive female robot named Jia Jia. With a real human appearance, this creation is not just presentable, but it is very intelligent.

The first Chinese interactive robot has the ability to interact very naturally with real people, it can react to different gestures of them and it can respond to affirmations by facial expressions. “Do not come closer if you want to take a photo of me, my face will look greasy.” This is just an example of affirmation that Jia Jia has in the database and it scared some participants at its revealing press conference.

Those three years invested in this project were spent for natural moves of the mouth and the head. Basically, the most surprising particularities of this robot are the wandering eyes around the room without looking like is a machine behind it.

In version 2.0 of the project, the developers hope to discover how to make it cry and laugh. The more naturally moves of the hands are on the priority list, too. At least for now, there not exist any intention to build this robot in series.
