Everything You Need to Know about Amazon’s Alexa

Artificial intelligence is on the rise and now every respectable company that’s active in the tech field is coming up with their own version of a virtual assistant for the devices they commercialize. Naturally, longtime worldwide retailer and more recently device producer giant Amazon came up with its own rendition of the ever so popular artificial intelligence assistant.

Its name is Alexa, and some may argue that “she” (if you can assign a gender to such a feature) is rather creepy. However, Alexa is actually incredibly useful if you own an Amazon Echo or an Amazon Echo Dot device because both these cylinders listen for your ‘Alexa’ command, then they engage in voice commands. Pretty cool, huh? Here’s everything you need to know about the Amazon Alexa.

About Alexa

As previously mentioned, Alexa is an artificial intelligence-based assistant for your Amazon Echo and Amazon Echo Dot devices. If you want to engage with Alexa, you have to give your device the appropriate voice command (meaning just say ‘Alexa’ out loud as clearly as possible). Alexa will then engage with you and try to fulfill your voice commands.

Alexa’s Commands

Here are all the commands you can ask Alexa to fulfill:

• Set reminders for various events that will happen in an assigned time frame
• Connect to third-party calendars
• Create and edit lists with Alexa (shopping lists, to-do lists etc.)
• Play songs
• Find radio stations
• Find audiobooks
• Alexa can also learn additional skills which will help ‘her’ perform new tasks such as connect to other smart home devices

However, you need to remember that Alexa is an Amazon creation, so it’s not compatible with all existing services out there. Thus, besides Amazon, Alexa can only access Spotify or TuneIn for music and Audible for audiobooks.
