Essential Phone Gets Android 8.1 Update, Improves Stability, Security and Adds Bluetooth 5.0

Essential Phone is a groundbreaking launch in many ways as it was the first phone to feature a top notch like the iPhone X. The designers went a step ahead and made the notch exceptionally small. They have now rolled out the latest Android 8.0 update for the device.

When everyone opined that a new manufacturer like Essential Phone may not consider supporting their older model which didn’t do well in terms of sales, the company has proved everyone wrong. They provide continued support with all security patch updates and have introduced all the best features 8.1 Oreo has to offer.

April Security Update

The manufacturers should always focus on providing timely security updates for Android as it is considered one of the vulnerable platforms often targeted by hackers. The Essential Phone along with the Oreo update has received the April security patch. It is a wise move as it will increase brand value and people will trust the company especially if they are about to launch an Essential Phone 2 in the near future with improved features and hardware specifications.

While the April security patch is not detailed, it does bring a lot of security tweaks and fixes so that you can use the phone without any privacy issues or losing access to important data. A detailed screenshot of the update has been posted below so that you can know more.

What’s New in the Essential Phone Update?

The Essential Phone as part of the update received Android 8.1 Oreo which is identified by the build number OPM1.180104.141. According to the tweet posted by the company, the new update also includes Bluetooth 5.0 certification combined with stability fixes, better modem connectivity, and bug fixes.

The developers have rolled out better support for external game controllers as Android is becoming a mainstream gaming platform in recent times with the release of titles like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds.

Essential Phone ushered in the era of top notch but other manufacturers are yet to reduce the size of the notch. They still use a wider design whereas the company managed to integrate every other sensor in the place of the camera and used a single dot as the notch.

With timely updates and such great support to bring in latest Android updates, it looks like they are on the right track. You can check your settings page to update the phone manually if the OTA update hasn’t rolled out to your device yet.
