As a computer programmer, you will write and test code for different computer apps or softs so that they properly function. Any new created apps or programs are going to be tested to see if the work correctly. If they don’t work, you must check and fix the mistakes.

You will write programs in C++ and Java or other languages, you will update or expand programs that already exist. You will test them and fix any mistakes/errors. You will create and test code, and use code libraries. You will have a close work with software developers and you could even design part of the program.

There are 328,600 jobs in computer programming, most of the programmers writing code while telecommuting and working full time.

You should get a bachelor’s degree in computer science or have an associate’s degree. It’s important to know a few programming languages to get a good job.

Before getting the dream job, it’s recommended to have an internship to gain more experience in the field.

It’s important for students not to only get experience from the time they study in universities, but they must also continue their education, as technology is forever changing.

Programmers can also get certificates for the programming languages they know. For those that have business experience, they can become computer system analysts. With more experience, they can be software developers or even get promoted to managerial positions.

A computer programmer should have the following skills: analytical skills, concentration, focused on details and also to have troubleshooting skills.

The salary of a computer programmer is an average of $77,550 a year, looking at top industries (software publishers, finance and insurance, administrative and support services, manufacturing, computer systems design and related services).

Unfortunately, employment in computer programming will decline 8% until 2024. But as long as you have a bachelor’s degree and good knowledge of various languages, job prospects will be improved.
