Samsung Galaxy S9 problems

Samsung Galaxy S9 is one of the most popular smartphones in the market right now. Being a Samsung flagship device, the Galaxy S9 provides its users with a lot of high-end features. Whether you are talking about the gorgeous 18:9 bezel-less screen or the immense power from its Snapdragon 845 processor, the Samsung Galaxy S9 has it all. Not only that, the S9 has one of the best cameras out there that also supports variable aperture on a smartphone camera. While the S9 has almost everything that one can expect from a 2018 flagship, the software side of things has some small issues as it is not running stock Android. Such problems can ruin your flagship experience and try to fix them can be quite a time consuming and cumbersome process. Let’s find out the most common Samsung Galaxy S9 problems along with their solutions so that you can easily fix those problems.

Samsung Galaxy S9 problems and how to fix them

Problem 1: Apps not running Full Screen

Since the Samsung Galaxy S9 has an 18:9 screen, apps can use that tall aspect ratio to display a lot of information on the screen at once. Unfortunately, some apps are not able to use the complete screen of Samsung Galaxy S9. Instead, these apps run at the default 16:9 aspect ratio due to which you get black bars that are quite frustrating especially when watching movies or playing games on your Galaxy S9.

Fortunately, it is quite easy to fix this issue and enable full-screen mode in all of your apps so that all the apps are using the complete 18:9 screen of your Samsung Galaxy S9. To fix this issue, you have to follow the given steps.

  • Open the ‘Settings” app on your smartphone.
  • In here, head to the ‘Display’ section where you will find all the display related settings.
  • Now, you have to locate the Full Screenn Apps’ section and open it.
  • After this, you’ll get the option for enabling or disabling full-screen mode for all the apps that are installed on your device.
  • Make sure to enable all the apps so that all your apps can use the complete 18:9 aspect ratio of your Galaxy S9’s display.

Problem 2: Device taking a Long Time to Fully Charge

If you are experiencing slow charging speeds with your Samsung Galaxy S9, then chances are that ‘Fast Charging’ is not enabled on your smartphone.

It is quite easy to fix this issue by simply enabling the fast charging feature on your device. In order to do so, you have to merely follow the instruction mentioned down below.

  • Head over to the ‘Settings’ app of your Galaxy S9.
  • Now open the ‘Battery’ settings of your device so that you can enable fast charging.
  • Here you’ll see the option for ‘Fast Charging’. Enable it, and your device will now charge much faster than before.
  • Next time when you will charge your device, a message saying ‘Fast Charging’ will appear on your Galaxy S9’s lock screen.

Problem 3: Samsung Galaxy S9 Wi-Fi Problems

A lot of Galaxy S9 users have reported issues with Wi-Fi connectivity in their phones. There are reports of sudden network drops and network not found issues from many S9 users. While there is no exact fix for Wi-Fi issues yet, there are some steps that you can carry out for fixing your Wi-Fi problems.

You can try using the following fixes on your Galaxy S9 for resolving all wireless network errors and issues.

  • Very often, it is the Wi-Fi router which is causing all the problems on your device. So try restarting your Wi-Fi router and see if the problem still persists.
  • If that does not help, you can try resetting your Wi-Fi router. In order to do it, you will need to follow your Wi-Fi router’s user manual as the procedure is going to be different for different Wi-Fi routers out there.
  • You can also try re-entering the Wi-Fi details in your Samsung Galaxy S9. For doing this, you have to open the Wi-Fi settings on your smartphone. Now, long tap on your desired Wi-Fi network and select ‘Forget Network’. After this, scan for available networks and connect to your wireless network which will hopefully fix all of the issues on your Galaxy S9.

Problem 4: Messaging App sending Photos automatically

There is a bug in the messaging app of the Samsung Galaxy S9 which sends photos from your gallery to your contacts. This bug is a massive concern for the user’s privacy since it can share sensitive images without the user’s knowledge. Even though Samsung has pushed an OTA update to address this alarming issue, chances are you are still on the older version and want to fix this issue for good.

Well, if are going to fix the bug without updating your phone, you have to use the following steps.

  • Go to the App Info of the messaging app installed on your Samsung Galaxy S9.
  • Inside its app info, you have to open the app’s permission and uncheck ‘Storage”.
  • Due to this, the messaging app will not be able to access your phone’s storage, and thus it can’t send any photos without you knowing about it.

Problem 5: Dark Slow Motion Videos

With the Samsung Galaxy S9, you get the option of recording 960fps super slow motion videos. While these videos look quite impressive, some people have experienced them to be under-exposed or very dark. Because of this, people are not able to use the slow motion feature to its full extent. In most cases, this problem is because of the Samsung Smart Stay feature and disabling it will most likely fix this issue.

If you want to disable Smart Stay on your Galaxy S9, then you can use the given steps to fix it.

  • Head over to the ‘Settings’ app on your smartphone.
  • Now go to the ‘Advanced Features’ of your S9.
  • In here, you have to disable ‘Smart Stay’.
  • Doing so will fix the slow motion video’s exposure on your Samsung Galaxy S9.

Problem 6: Galaxy S9 Touchscreen Sensitivity Issues

In case your S9 is having touchscreen sensitivity issues due to a drop or maybe due to a screen protector, then there is an easy fix for it. Samsung has included an option for changing touch screen sensitivity in their Galaxy phones which we will use to fix this issue.

You can use the given steps for adjusting the touchscreen sensitivity of your Samsung Galaxy S9.

  • Open the ‘Settings’ app of your Samsung Galaxy S9.
  • Locate and open the ‘Advanced Features’ in the settings app.
  • Within this section, you will find an option which says ‘Touch Sensitivity’.
  • You can use this option to tweak the touchscreen sensitivity of your Galaxy S9 and thus fix any issues.

Problem 7: Samsung Galaxy S9 Audio Problems due to Wet Speaker

The Samsung Galaxy S9 is an IP68 rated smartphone and due to that, users can use their smartphone in wet environments. However, sometimes the phone’s speaker ends up getting wet which causes audio issues in the loudspeaker. This happens when the water gets into the speaker grill of your device and muffles the speaker.

Solution: To address this issue, Samsung has a waterproof film right in front of the speaker that stops water from permanently damaging your device’s speaker. So if you are facing any audio problems from the loudspeaker, it is highly recommended that you let the speaker dry for some time. And after a while, you’ll see that the speaker of your device has been fixed as all of the water would have evaporated.

Problem 8: Fixing Resolution and Scaling Issues on Galaxy S9

The Samsung Galaxy S9 has a QHD+ display which while looking super sharp, consumes a lot of battery. Therefore, Samsung has included an option for using the phone at FHD+ resolution for saving battery.

If you are using the FHD+ resolution, you might face some scaling issues in your smartphone which can be easily fixed using the given steps.

  • First of all, open the ‘Settings’ app on your Samsung Galaxy S9.
  • Go to the ‘Display’ section in the app and locate ‘Screen Resolution’.
  • You can then use this option to switch your device’s resolution to QHD+ which will fix all the scaling issues.

Problem 9: Fix for all Other Issues on Samsung Galaxy S9

While the fixes mentioned above will fix most of your problems regarding the Galaxy S9, chances are you are still looking for a solution. In that case, you should first try rebooting your phone. As rebooting reloads your operating system, it can fix a lot of issues.

If rebooting does not help in fixing your issues, you can always try performing a factory reset on your device. Doing so will delete all your data and apps, so make sure to back up all your necessary files first. Once you have done that, you can then follow the given steps in order to reset your Samsung Galaxy S9.

  • Open the ‘Settings’ app of your Samsung Galaxy S9 to reset it.
  • In here, go to ‘General Management’ and select ‘Reset’.
  • Doing so will completely wipe your device and hopefully fixes your issues.

These are common Samsung Galaxy S9 problems and their solutions. You can always contact Samsung Customer Care if nothing works out for your device. Since Samsung service centers are the best place if your issue is related to manufacturing defects or hardware failures, you should always consider contacting them.

  1. Have you got any information on how the new software update us affecting S9 users? My phone has been extremely slow since the update. Any tips?

  2. I’ve had my Samsung S9 for almost 3 years, no problems…until now. First if anyone sent me a pic by text, it would just say downloading…might not get it to come thru for hours or until the next day. Took it to my provider, he changed the theme on my phone (to an ugly one) it worked a couple of days, then back to the same thing. Then it started saying “failed” on a LOT of texts that I send…I never know if my texts will send or not. Went back in, they put a new SIM card in the phone. Everything worked for 3 1/2 days. Now it’s back to basically sending my texts whenever it wants to, or just failing to send. This has been going on for 3 months. This phone will be PAID for in April!!! I really can’t afford to buy a new one. Why can’t anyone fix this problem? I’m wondering if it’s the carrier that I’m with. Plus my phone wlll be paid for soon, maybe they think I’ll buy another one thru them…I’m not.

  3. Bonsoir

  5. Thank you for the help. Had trouble with Touch Sensitivity and was having trouble especially with answering the phone so hope your tip helped. Just changed it so still haven’t tried answering a call but I hope that fixed it.

  6. Buonasera,

Grazie mille 😉

  8. When a message is received over WhatsApp, the flash light glows and the front screen changes color with vibration. I do not know if I have by mistake activated any function in the setting…Any idea how to stop this happening.
