Best Things To Know Before Updating to iPhone XR

Best Things To Know Before Updating to iPhone XR

Do you want to upgrade your iPhone to the iPhone XR? – Here is what you should consider:

  •  The iPhone XR is bigger in size than previous iPhones

You would experience some disappointment if you thought that the iPhone XR would be similar in size with older iPhones.

The iPhone XS, iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 7, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6 are all smaller than the iPhone XR. It is neither as big as the Plus variant of those iPhones, but you can see the difference.

For someone who prefers smaller phones, you should think about the jump you are about to make.

  •  No matter if your actual phone is a standard or plus size iPhone, the display of the iPhone XR is bigger

Physically the iPhone 8, 7, or 6 are not larger, but they do have a smaller screen compared to the iPhone XR’s one.

The LCD display of the iPhone XR measures 6.1 inches which are larger than the LCD screen that the Plus iPhones have and measures 5.5 inches.

With that being said, however, the iPhone XS Max has a bigger OLED display which measures 6.5 inches.

  •  Older iPhones are lighter than the iPhone XR

The older iPhones are way lighter than the 194 gram iPhone XR. Here are the differences in the iPhones:

iPhone 6 — 129 grams

iPhone 6S — 143 grams

iPhone 7 — 138 grams

iPhone 8 — 148 grams

It is obvious that the Plus models are heavier, but only the iPhone XS Max and iPhone 8 Plus exceeds the iPhone XR.

  •   The iPhone XR lacks the home button and the fingerprint sensor.

If you are used to owning an older iPhone and take a look at the newer ones you will see that the first difference that pops up is the lack of a home button where the fingerprint sensor is usually found.

The home button has been eliminated by Apple when they launched the iPhone X, decision which got carried to this year’s iPhones as well. There are some other gestures that you will need to use to open your phone, or you can swipe up from the bottom of the display. However, the most interesting way to open your phone is by using Face ID. Instead of scanning your fingerprint you will have your face scanned. What it does it confirms your identity for Apple Play purchases and unlocks your phone.

  •  No headphone jack in the iPhone XR

If you have an iPhone 7 or a newer one you are used to this. If your phone is even older than this, it means that you will need to wave goodbye to your headphone jack.

Even though the iPhone XR does not have a headphone jack, it comes with Lightning-enabled EarPods. They work exactly like the older earbuds from Apple, but you will need to plug them where the charger goes. If you do not want to use the headphones from Apple, you can always buy the adapter from Apple that costs $10.

  • Older iPhones do not have wireless charging, but the iPhone XR does

Most people do not find this a life-changing feature because it required an extra accessory that usually costs no less than $40. However, would not it be nice to have? Instead of plugging the power cord into your phone, you can use a charging mat instead. All you need to do is place your iPhone on it.

The older iPhones that have this feature are the iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone 8.

  • The iPhone XR’s camera is better than most iPhone’s

The best advantage we could think of when it comes to upgrading your phone to the iPhone XR is the camera.

Even though this phone has fewer lenses than the iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS, and iPhone X it works just as fine. You will notice this change if your iPhone was made four or five years ago.

A comparison made by Washington Post’s Geoffrey Fowler between the iPhone XR and the iPhone 6 shows the major difference.

You should go test the camera of the iPhone XR and see for yourself how different the camera is compared to older iPhones.
