G-Tech G-Drive ev ATC.

This hard drive has a powerful design. What made us put it on our list is its superb resiliency. The ATC which stands for ‘All Terrain Case’.

While the case and hard drive can be separated for those who may not want to carry the rather bulky case everywhere, I find no reason to part with the case because of its abilities to handle so much. It can withstand half a ton in pressure and can survive a fall from two meters. The water and dust resistant case can also be dunked in water for 30 seconds without the hard drive giving in. In fact with the case on, the hard drive will simply float back up to the surface.

But if you decide to stay indoors and do not foresee any trips and falls then the hard drive can be used without its case as well. It has 1TB of storage and a USB 3.0. If you buy it from the Apple Store then it comes with the Thunderbolt interface so that it can be used with the Macs, but if you intend to buy this online, you will get the ordinary USB 3.0 version.

Western Digital My Book Thunderbolt Duo.

This hard drive has been around for a while, but we still love this chunky drive because of its ability to store massive amounts of photos, videos and data. It features two internal drives that can be removed if you plan to swap in a new drive to store more data. It starts with a minimum of 4TB and goes up to 8TB.

The Thunderbolt Duo supports RAID 0 and RAID 1 which provides speed and security to its users. So photographers and video editors who need to store data and are relying on strong performance along with security to save their work, this hard drive will match their needs perfectly.

This drive also works with Time Machine to backup your data automatically. It still uses Thunderbolt 1.0 for connectivity but we find this hard drive to be one that performs well and allows a lot of data storage.

ioSafe Solo G3.

The G3 is one of the heaviest hard drives that I have come across. It comes with layers and layers of protection to ensure that the hard drive can survive extreme conditions without any problems. When I say extreme conditions I am talking about surviving up to 1550 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes and being submerged in up to 10 feet water for 3 days.

The Solo G3 is a quiet strong device so you will not have to deal with a lot of noise or humming in the background while using this hard drive. But where the company has spent a lot on protecting the hard drive from external damage, there isn’t much that has been done to protect it from internal failure. Meaning, if the Solo G3 fails because of mechanical defects or general wear and tear then there isn’t much that you may be able to do about the data that is lost.

With just one hard drive on the inside, the device does not support any RAID configurations which makes it susceptible to lose of data due to internal damage.

For those who are inclined towards beauty and design, the Christofle Sphere is an irresistible device. It is more of a lovely piece of accessory for your Mac than an external storage device. The handcrafted silver-plated chassis puts a hefty price tag to this hard drive, but one look at it and you won’t mind paying that extra bit for this exquisite looking hard drive.

It is a bus-powered USB 3.0 external drive which has had its chassis designed by renowned French maker of fine silverware, Christofle. The external drive offers a storage of 1TB and displays a strong performance. It includes a software suite which helps you keep your data safe. This is an elegant piece of hardware that is meant for people who love the stylish stuff. But if you were looking for something affordable and basic, then the Christofle Sphere may not be the best for you. While there is no doubt that everyone will find it attractive, chances are that you may not want to spend on this an amount that you can use to get twice the storage space or even more.
