Motorola Edge S Armed with Snapdragon 870 Expected to Hit the Stores on January 26

Just two days back, Qualcomm announced the launch of the Snapdragon 870 5G processor. The chipset is the latest addition to the Snapdragon 800 family of chipsets. The press release put out by the company also confirmed the fact that Motorola is one of the leading manufacturers to whom they will be providing the chipset. As soon as this information came out, people started wondering which would be the first device from Motorola to feature the Snapdragon 870.

Now, finally, confirmation has come from the multinational technology company about this. The Motorola Edge S, which is being readied for a launch on January 26, will be the first device from the company which will come integrated with a Snapdragon 870 processor.

The launch of the Motorola Edge S is quite special as it will be the first flagship phone to be launched in China by the company. The official Lenovo China Weibo account claims that the Motorola Edge S will be the first-ever phone to run on the Snapdragon 870 processor.

The Snapdragon 870 happens to be a 7nm chipset featuring a 3.2Ghz clock speed. It comes across as a marginally upgraded version of the Snapdragon 865 Plus which is often referred to as the overclocked model of the Snapdragon 865.

The Motorola Edge S reportedly features a 6.7-inch display screen that offers FHD+resolution. To support dual front-facing cameras, two holes have been designed in the screen. The refresh rate is expected to be 105Hz. Early prediction suggests that the Snapdragon 870 will be paired with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and different models will offer different storage options.

The phone boasts of a quad-camera system. The primary camera offers a resolution of 64MP and then, there is a 16MP ultrawide-angle camera. The front end of the camera features a 16MP sensor coupled with an 8MP ultrawide angle camera. You also get a fingerprint scanner mounted on the side and a 5000mAh battery. As of now, there is no information on whether the phone will support fast-charging technology or not.

While the phone will be launched and distributed in the Chinese market in a big way, there is no confirmation on whether it will be launched across different countries at the same time. If it does get a global launch, it will be distributed under the Moto G brand.
