Apple’s proprietary operating system iOS 12 is not even 3 months into its existence and the company sent out an update iOS 12.1.2 just three days back, on Monday to be exact. It came with the build number 16C101. And now the company has replaced this with another update that is numbered 16C104. There is no clarity yet on why the update had to be ‘updated’ again.
Speculations Abound on the Unusual Happening
It is not very often that software updates are released within such a short gap between each other. And in the absence of any official explanation from Apple, observers are freely making guesses on what could have been. On the one extreme is the assessment that this had something to do with the legal issues on infringements alleged by Qualcomm in the courts in China. This set of people believe that Apple had suggested that it will tweak its software to fall in line with the agreement it has with Qualcomm and the sale of its phones won’t be affected. It is a different matter that the chip maker is still to be convinced and insists that Apple has not complied with the court’s orders.
There are others who feel there might have been something minor missed in the Monday update and that is why the company had to redo it today.
Some Confusion at the Users’ End as Well
Some users seem to have some issues with downloading the new replacement update. Regular iPhone users know how the updates have to be downloaded and installed. They have to reach the Settings app on their iPhones and then tap on General and from the menu choose Software update. The phone will then direct the user to make the required changes to complete the download and installation of the update on their device. The present update iOS 12.1.2 should also be handled in the same manner. However, according to some reports, users who had already downloaded and installed the update on Monday are unable to replace it with the fresh one issued. Those who had missed the Monday version had no issue in getting the Thursday update.
In terms of the major features of this iOS update, it is said that some of the problems that are related to the e-SIM featuring models, the iPhone XS, XS Max and iPhone XR were being rectified. There is also the mention of a specific connectivity issue iPhone users in Turkey were facing.
