Throughout last year, there were plenty of rumors that the iPhone SE2 or whatever name Apple chooses to give the smartphone, will be released in the first quarter of 2020. There were many speculations on the form factor and design of this phone being very similar to the iPhone 8 and so on. Some weeks before, however, there were reports that suggested that this phone will be a part of the regular September launch and not earlier. Now, there’s again another twist to this story and this time, the Japanese site MacOtakara has said the iPhone SE2 is going to be launched in the first half of this calendar year. The report says it has relied on supply chain sources and appears to confirm most of the previously speculated details about the device.
5.4-inch Display; Slim Bezels Predicted
One variation from the earlier prediction about this budget iPhone is that its bezels will be much thinner all around. The display size is predicted to be 5.4 inches and it would sport a Liquid Retina display. Even the precise dimensions of the phone are mentioned as 138.5mm x 67.4mm x 7.8mm. There will be the bump in the rear for the camera and the thickness at this place would be a maximum of 8.6mm. The earlier understanding was that Apple would not have Face ID for this device and the Touch ID alone would be provided for secure access. This fresh report seems to suggest the company is in the process of developing a Face ID too for this model.
Some Older Rumors Being Confirmed
What matches with the earlier rumors are things like the A13 Bionic chipset being the processor and that the RAM would be 3GB. The storage could be in two variants of 64GB and 128GB. These are improvements over the iPhone 8.
Apple Hopes to Win the Market with this New Device
If the market experts are to be believed, Apple will price this new phone, iPhone SE2 or iPhone 9, at $399 and will want to sell around 30 million pieces before the year 2020 is over. The monthly shipments could be anywhere between 2 and 4 million. Some even expect a March 2020 release of this device. All these are still in the realm of speculation and there is no confirmation from Apple on any of the above.
There won’t be so much smoke without a fire. So, expect some of it to come true.
