The speculation online so far has been that Apple has on its agenda a budget phone to be released in the first quarter of this year. It was rumored that the phone will have the size and form factor resembling the iPhone 8 and the model number could be the iPhone 9. A new message appearing on a Japanese site Mac Otakara has now suggested that the device that is similar to the iPhone 8 and with a display size of 5.4-inches will be part of the bunch of iPhones to be launched this fall. It is known that the LCD panel for the budget device was being supplied through a Japanese source. Mac Otakara also refers to component suppliers who had participated in the just concluded CES 2020. This can be quite confusing.
Biggest Confusion over the Display Size
The understanding so far has been that Apple will retain the same 4.7-inch size display that the iPhone 8 comes with. Some people speculated that the latest changes in display, like reduced bezels, etc. could offer a little more real estate. The rumors had also indicated that the Face ID won’t be part of the specs for this budget phone and that the company will continue to have the physical Home button which will also act as the fingerprint sensor. This new post on the Japanese site gives a different twist. It says while the basic display size will remain the same, the Home button will stand eliminated and there will be a TrueDepth camera to facilitate unlocking. This will also result in more real estate on the display screen being freed up and it will have a 5.4-inch display.
This has only confused the pundits, since the expectation was that one of the three iPhone models to be released in September 2020 will have a 5.4-inch display. However, at no time in the past, this 5.4-inch iPhone was connected to the iPhone 8.
Some Argue There’s No Change in Apple’s Plans
Those who have their ears to the ground are still sticking to their earlier stand that there will be one budget iPhone released by Apple in Spring, which will bear a price of around $400 ($399 is the prediction). There will be 3 other models in the Fall; all three will be 5G phones and their display sizes are likely to be 5.4-inches, 6.1-inches, and 6.7-inches. The prices for these could start at $700.
A caveat is always added that you never know with Apple.
