The newest Android version is Android 8.0 Oreo and most of us are still waiting until our smartphones will receive this update. Oreo was released at first for some Google smartphone such as Nexus 5, Nexus 6 and Pixel and Pixel 2. Now, the attention is pointed towards the future Android operating system: so far most have named it Android P.

Android Peppermint Pocky?

We already now Google enjoys using yummy sweets as names for its Android operating systems and recently, Hiroshi Lockheimer, Google executive, wrote on a SNS that there might be a dual name for Android P: Peppermint Pocky.

Lockheimer published a post on Twitter saying that hypothetically the P could come from Peppermint. Pocky USA replied and said that it is a great idea.

Android P: what sweet things could it mean?

There are many sweets starting with the letter P: Pumpkin, Pie, Pecan, Puff, Popsicle, Peppermint etc. It is difficult to predict the name of the future Android OS. Marques Brownlee, famous YouTuber has painted the Android mascot in red and white. This symbolizes Peppermint and Lockheimer replied saying it was an interesting idea.

These Twitter post have left Android fans even more curious on what will be the name of the future Android OS.

Past names used for Android OS were: Cupcake (Android 1.5), Donut (Android 1.6), Éclair, (Android 2.1), Froyo (2.2), Gingerbread (API 9), Honeycomb (Android 3.0), Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), Jelly Beam (API 17), KitKat (API 19), Lollipop (API 21), Marshmallow (API 23), Nougat (7.0) and Oreo (Android 8.0).

After taking a quick look at the previous names Android Peppermint Pocky is definitely a possibility.

A previous rumor was that P comes from Petit Four. Petit Four are tiny and delicious French cakes and they could symbolize the diversity of the Android ecosystem.
