Artificial intelligence will play a much more critical role in the future of Android P than in earlier versions. To increase the autonomy, the system automatically closes the applications that you have not recently interacted with. The brightness of the screen will only be enhanced when you need it. Notifications from various applications will include buttons for quick features designed to streamline interaction.
Android P is officially available in public beta. That means the users of some phones can install it. Unpleasant surprises, malfunction, bugs, etc. may also occur. Installation is done on own responsibility, and a backup I would say is necessary.
Is your phone compatible?
In total, the list of compatible devices includes 11 models: Google Pixel; Google Pixel XL; Google Pixel 2; Google Pixel 2 XL; Essential Phone; Nokia 7 Plus; Oppo R15 Pro; Sony Xperia XZ2; vivo X21; vivo X21UD and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S. Samsung mobile lovers will be disappointed to learn that they are not on the list.
The application allows setting rules, from limiting background processes and updates, to data usage. A great option especially for those who have children and want to limit their access to certain sites, applications, information and data. It could make shortcuts to various in-app actions, thanks to a new concept called Actions and Slices. So, if people want to come up with an Uber, they just tap on a single button. Android P will simplify “Do not Disturb” to make people use it more often. The Wind Down mode will be activated at night, to help people prepare for bedtime and reduce distractions.
A series of gestures and actions have been taken from the iPhone X. While it is not advisable to install a beta operating system on your main phone, there are plenty of details that might spark your curiosity. From now on, it’ll be easier to interact with open applications if the display of the phone does not include any buttons.
There are some hidden features on this new version, like: split-screen, open the app drawer fast (there is a line above the Google search bar. It opens the app drawer, without any further tap), emergency lockdown (the feature can be used by holding the power-off button until it shows up on the screen the choices. There it can be found the new Lockdown button. So, the Android device will automatically lock and can be unlocked with a PIN or pattern), adaptive battery (Android P would use an algorithm developed by Google and Deep Mind so that the phone knows, with quotes, which applications will be used in the near future or later).
It can be found detailed statistics on mobile phone time and exactly data for various apps and services on Android. Somehow, Google wants to alert and depending on the information in this panel – the user can choose to work on the smartphone in a judicious way (you can choose an application time to get notifications – useful for those who want to reduce the time allocated to Facebook or Instagram).
In case of S8 Plus, Google says the new screen setup has made Android P users give up 50% of the manual setting. It is now up to each producer to take into account and implement. Google wants to improve the way the automatic brightness and, besides the information provided by the environmental sensor, also to bring the learning habits. The truth is that the automatic brightness often works flawed (too dark or too bright, etc.).
Android P completely removes the Home button from the operating system interface and instead of that, it displays a small white button that suggests there should be a gesture, just like Apple did with the iPhone X. A few people are amazed by the important change that the American company does. This will have a new gesture control system, even though it is similar to what exists on the iPhone X.
Other interface-related changes: the ability to adjust the screen orientation manually, the volume key always adjusts the volume of the speaker, out of the bundle, and the volume of the incoming calls sound (separate icon). The Volume Control Interface is now upright next to the adjustment buttons. Swipe from bottom to the top to open Recent Apps, wherever you are in the + 5 predictive open interface at the bottom of the screen. The second swipe opens the application menu. All these are taken from iPhone X & iOS.
Using App Actions, Google will make available, by artificial intelligence, the applications people use most often or they need in certain situations. When connecting headphones, for example, Android P automatically opens the playlists in Spotify or Google Play Music. Or if somebody looks for “Rome”, for example, Android will instantly offer its associated apps, from the Rome map to Google Maps, Booking.com, Uber and Taxify.
Finally, it will be interesting to see if Android P will remedy the biggest problem of the operating system created by Google. People with Android deal with the fragmentation of the platform and the slow speed of user updates. The fact that beta can be tested on phones other than those created by Google is an important step in the right direction.
