Android 8.0 Octopus – The Fourth and Final Beta Version of Android O

The fourth and final beta version of Android O us out and the main change is a new code name.

Meet the cartoon octopus!

When you access Android 8.0’s version number Easter egg, a cartoon octopus will greet you. As octopus starts with the letter O and Google has always made sure to offer the numeric Android versions a corresponding alphabetical code number, this time is no different.

Last year came out the Nougat, and now Octopus seems to fall in line. Another neat coincidence (or not) is the fact that an octopus has eight tentacles which align with the latest Android version 8.0 as well. Of course, all this is not official yet, but we are patiently waiting.

Android’s code names so far

Android’s code names have always been based on dessert or treat names: Cupcake, Nougat and so on. It’s interesting if Google decided to switch to animal names suddenly.

But, n the other hand, the company really loves playing tricks on its fans. We have seen this before with the April Fools’ pranks.

Last year, sometimes at the same point in Android N’s development timeline, Google trolled its users by developing a version number Easter egg that had many users believing that Android 7.0 would end up called Namey McNameface.

Considering all these details and facts, we can’t be sure of anything until it becomes official news. As cool and funny as it may be, the octopus just doesn’t fit Google’s naming convention, and its tentacles are a bit too convenient.

Get the latest Easter egg in Android 8.0

In case you want to check out the new Easter egg in Android 8.0, you just have to sign up for Android Beta Program with a compatible device. Then you must get the newest OTA update and go to System – About Phone. After that, tap on Android version seven times, then tap the O logo a few more time and long-press it. You will get to meet the interactive octopus!
