Amazon, one of the largest and most popular sites for online shopping is now opening a physical bookstore in Seattle.
Visitors will find the most popular books from Amazon, and all the books will be available at the same prices as on the website. The bookstore will stock 5,000 books, but that’s not all. Customers will be able to try Aamazon’s devices, including the Fire TV and Kindle.
The bookstore at the Seattle University Village will be open today.
“Amazon Books is a physical extension of Amazon.com. We’ve applied 20 years of online bookselling experience to build a store that integrates the benefits of offline and online book shopping,” Amazon Books vice-president Jennifer Cast said.
Many are questioning why Amazon is actually experimenting with a physical bookstore.
“It goes against the Amazon model of being a never-ending bookshop that is not reliant on having books on shelves,” Tom Tivnan, features editor at the Bookseller magazine said.
“It is unclear whether they will roll it out across the US. I can see it going to a limited number of cities like New York or possibly London, but I don’t think it will have a huge impact,” he added.
The bookstore is opening its doors today.
