The new Reddit AMA featuring a few Android O developers revealed some interesting things for sure. Here are five of them that you might find useful in the future. Let’s begin, shall we?
- No Dark Mode, sorry
The Android O Reddit AMA shattered quite a few fan hearts, because it put an end to the rumors that Android O will come with Dark mode. And while Google teased this feature intensively on previews for both Android O and Android Nougat last year, it seems that it just can’t be delivered. And the reason for this failure is? It’s hard to theme it, apparently.
- No more lock-screen quick replies
Google teased the quick lock-screen replies ever since Android Nougat, but they never made it into the final version, and they won’t come to Android O either. The reason for this is obvious: it threatens user security to allow a device to accept replying to messages without having to unlock it first.
- No more blobs
Google’s blob-top emojis have had a long run, but they also look stupid and almost everyone low-key hated them from the get go. So now Google is finally dropping the blob emoji design and reverting back to the nice, round ones.
- Secret name
What the Reddit AMA didn’t tell us and we all wished it did is what the ‘O’ in the name stands for. There are a lot of theories going around, and the developers on the thread seem to have given the most ludicrious answers to throw us off track.
- Tablets are still important
Although Android O seems to cater mostly to smartphones, the Android devs on the Reddit AMA thread reassured everyone that the new OS has something for tablets as well.
