How to Prepare your Device for iOS 12.1

The iOS 12 update brought a host of new and interesting features along with several security updates that revitalized a lot of iPhones.

The new iOS 12.1 update continues the trend as it adds a selection of socializing and communication tools that are sure to make your life a little easier. The Group FaceTime allows a virtual family reunion, as you can simultaneously chat with up to 32 different people at the same time. Seventy new emojis will let you add a bit of personal flair to your messages.

As usual, the update is free and available on several iPhone generations. Below you will find a helpful guide in order to safely update your device and enjoy the new features.

  1. Back up your data

This is the first thing you have to do before installing any updates since there is always a chance that something may go wrong. iCloud is useful but a manual back up won’t take long and its more comprehensive. The easiest way to do it is to connect your iPhone to a computer/laptop, launch iTunes and hit the ‘’Back Up Now’’ option. Wait for the process to finish and disconnect your device.

  1. Make some space

New updates need additional storage space so you should also delete unnecessary files and apps in order to create some free space.

  1. Charge it up

Your device won’t install the update unless a certain battery threshold is reached so be sure to top-up the battery before trying to start the update process.

  1. Confirm installation

A notification will soon appear on your home screen, inviting you to install the update. If you went through all the previous steps, go ahead and confirm the installation. If you missed the notification or ignored it while playing a game, it can also be found at Settings/General/Software Update. Wait for the update to install and you are good to go!
